If you have scrolled your Instagram feed over the last couple of months, you have most certainly been inundated with plenty of looks featuring the classic plaid coat. Whether oversized or more tailored like menswear, the plaid coat is to winter what velvet was for fall. And it is perfect for layering your look.
There are so many ways to style a longline plaid coat. You can dress it up with culottes and booties, or go uber casual by wearing it over a hoodie with boyfriends jeans and a pair of classic Gucci sneaks. As you can see, I went for a layered look pairing my coat with a cable knit layered sweater (courtesy of City Chic) that features a faux dual layer design. The top has a classic collared neckline and plenty of stretch (a plus as it won’t lose its shape). The sleek, super stretch skinny jeans fit like a glove and help to solidify the minimalist look I was going for overall.
The coat comes with a matching waist tie, but I decided to add a little eye-catching element by swapping it out for a Gucci belt. I tossed on my red bottoms, grabbed my Gucci crossbody and off I went … looking ever so effortless stylish. This is such an easy look to recreate. The plaid coat is a subtle, yet great statement coat option, that has remained timeless.
I am a lover of coats, especially those that will stand the test of fashion time like this one. As a Florida native who never had the need for more than one coat a year, I have surely made up for in my adult like. When I live the San Francisco Bay Area, I needed a coat almost everyday. So, now I have more outerwear than all the days in winter. Check out one of my all time favorites here. I would love to see how the #Freehive styles your plaid outerwear. Come on, share you looks with me!
