Are you afraid to experiment with mixing bright colors in your wardrobe? Well, if you are like most people, when shopping you generally bypass the bright colored clothing and zero in on the basic neutral items. I am guilty of this too because let’s face it, it makes getting dressed so much easier.
While I have an affinity for all things black and white, I love wearing colorful palettes whenever I can. I think combining up to three or four colors in a single outfit can up the ante on your style and make you stand out in the crowd. Mix more than that and you risk looking like Rainbow Bright. The secret to mixing colors the right way is to understand the color wheel and combine colors that complement each other. Colors closet to each other on the wheel generally pair very well together.
When I purchased this bright yellow crop top (Similar HERE) from JIBRI, I knew immediately that I’d pair it with this hi-waisted orange midi circle skirt (HERE) from Eloquii. I just had a feeling these two pieces would really work well together and I’d achieve a look that was classic and trendy.
The hot pink color of my clutch bag allowed me to add yet another color that didn’t overwhelm the look I was trying to create. I also thought the neutral giraffe print shoes complemented the overall outfit.
My husband and my photographer Markus wanted to see what the ensemble would look like with yellow shoes, so I obliged. However, I think the yellow shoes make this look too matchy-mathy and like a uniform or Easter outfit, which was totally NOT what I was going for.
I’m completely in love with the way this look turned out (minus the yellow shoes, LOL!) and can’t wait to pair these individual pieces with other items to create more fun looks. Hope you are inspired to mixed it up a bit and when you do, make sure to share your final looks with me by tagging me on Instagram at @iamnikkifree or by posting it in the comments section here on the blog.
