STYLE: QUEEN BEE

One of my friends coined the name #Freehive as the moniker for the fans and followers of me and NikkiFreeStyle. And another friend, after seeing this fun jumper, said I am officially the “Queen Bee” of the hive! So here I am, officially accepting my seat on the throne having been coronated as NikkiFree, The Queen Bee of the #Freehive.

STYLE: EXHALE .......

I am heading to Jamaica next month to participate in the first Curvy Caribbean Conference and I am so looking forward to the trip. I can’t wait to mix and mingle with the participants, share some fashion & beauty tips and breath in some hypnotic ocean air. I am also anxious for some time on the beach so I can thoroughly EXHALE!

REVIEW: JIBRI SPRING 17 Collection

Jasmine Elder, the creative director, fashion designer and fabulous soul behind the equally fabulous contemporary plus fashion line JIBRI, never ceases to amaze me or her loyal fans and followers. And her Spring 17 collection certainly does NOT disappoint.

I am always in awe of how Jasmine outdoes herself season after season but manages to stay true to her classic aesthetic. I love the way she plays with color to breathe new  life into her signature items time after time.  Take for instance her signature crop tops. Now I get that “plus size” and “crop top” might sound like an oxymoron to most, but Jasmine has almost singled-handedly turned them into a closet staple each season for ladies with belly by making color, print and fabric changes as needed. The same goes for her signature high-waisted pants and skirts. How does JIBRI manage to never lose its cool classic appeal you may wonder? It’s because Jasmine has created timeless silhouettes that outlast every other trendy iteration.

Like with her Bridal and Swim collections before it, the Spring 17 offering is full of fresh surprises like the black and white striped crop top with the shoulder ruffle and exaggerated puff sleeves. I am a die hard fan of JIBRI and didn’t see this one coming. Nor did I forecast she’d sweeten the collection with the heart print “Rae” crop top, a fun but funky and classic throwback to the 80s with its chiffon fabric.

I am just so in love with the collection, that when I think I have settled on a favorite piece, I find something new. The V-neck Illusion Slouch Dress is just as sexy and fabulous as the women who invest in JIBRI pieces. While this could have easy slid downhill into a Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company 1970s house caftan, Jasmine managed to cut it ever so slightly to the bodice just enough to make it appear to hug the curves of the hip just so. And the positioning and direction of the stripes provides even more of a slimming affect.

Black/White Bat Sleeved Maxi Dress

I just can’t explain how BAD Jasmine Elder to the unfashionable fat girl. I am here to declare, with the launch of this fresh, fashion-forward and simply fantastic Spring offering, JIBRI, thanks to the amazing talent of Jasmine Elder, it the absolute best independent plus she brand available right now. Get you some! Here are more amazing looks from the collection ...

I want every piece in the collection and have a couple of items in my shopping cart. I know for sure the black and white, and hearts crop tops will both be in my closet soon. Check out the collection. You won’t be disappointed.

STYLE: Cherry Blossoms Season

“What a strange thing! to be alive beneath cherry blossoms.”
~Kobayashi Issa, Japanese poet and lay Buddhist priest

I just returned from a business trip to Washington, DC and before the recent winter storm engulfed the city in snow and below freezing temperatures, you could see the famous cherry blossoms had begun to bloom. Because the blossoms are so close to peak bloom and exposed, they are very vulnerable to the cold temperatures, according to National Park Service. While those blossoms struggle to recover, let me introduce you to Cherry Blossoms Dresses.

STYLE: SPRING FORWARD

We are in 48 hours into Daylight Saving Time and so many of us are still struggling to “spring forward”. As we get ourselves together and adjust to our new normal for the next week, one thing to keep in mind is this: Spring is rapidly approaching, and that means more cute dresses in lots of bright colors are on the horizon.
